What's the difference between american-style capitalism and capitalism in general?

I hear a lot about "american-style" capitalism but how is that any different from capitalism in general? I thought american-style capitalism was real capitalism. What is the difference?

It means the government wont get out of the way and let me make some MONEY!!!!!!

American style capitalism means government backed mortgages, securities, student loans, etc. This means companies can take risks they normally would not because the taxpayer has their back.

It also means subsidies for farmers and corporations. Price controls on labor and farm commodities (price floors), regulations, restrictions, etc.

capitalism means the only role the government plays in the economy is to provide courts and prosecutors to prosecute fraud and theft. The economy is left to its own devices to weed out inefficiency, failure, bad customer service, etc and reward efficiency, productivity, value, and innovation.

it seems as though capitalism, american style still allows for large governmental interventions into the welfare of those who can't or won't do for themselves. that is what gets in the heads of so many who say, but we already are quasi-socialists.

A massive amount of government intervention in the free market. A truly capitalist society would have a very small government. Ours is far from small.
