How would an American go about renting a motorcycle in Ireland?

My brother and I are looking at taking a trip to Ireland this spring and I would like to know anything you might be able to tell me about motorbiking in Ireland.

What are the laws? Would an American license that has a Motorcycle endorsement and an international driving permit be enough to satisfy Ireland's motorbiking licensing requirements?

Are there any rentals? Are there places in Ireland that will actually rent out motorcycles to Americans and where are they?

Any information would be helpful,

Thanks in advance.

Have a look on the Harley . com sites at home and I am sure they will link you to Harley Hire worldwide. I see no reason why you would not be able to rent in the same way you would a car over hrer.

I am living in UK and will be riding the Route 66 in 2009 and will rent over there so why not the other way round

Ireland looks a wonderful country to tour but I have never been but hope to put that right someday. Have done a bit in Scotland and that is absolutely magnificent and Ireland landscape is reported to be similar. So just enjoy

When you are over here just ride safely and stick to our side of the road. Round abouts are a bit strange going a different way round but you soon get used to it

Good luck and post some comments on here for us all once you have done it.

The same way as an Irish person would rent a motorbike in Ireland i guess. It really isnt a great place for bikers. The cr*ppy weather is all year round and a lot of drivers are nut jobs who are lets say not adverse to driving home after an afternoon in the pub

Tom McCrea in Lisburn, a few miles from Belfast, hires out motorcycles and at the moment his stock consists of: 1998 CB500, 1987 GT550, Suzuki GSX750F, Honda CB250, Honda CG125 and a Yamaha 600 Diversion.

This will be gradually increasing in the near future. The prices now run from 30 - 55 per day depending on model.

Not many renters of bikes in Southern (Rep) Ireland but this one is good if you can arrange to pick up in Northern Ireland.

-You could enter Ireland through Belfast International Airport and ride down south via Dublin and back up the west coast before returning the bikes then deperting for home.
