What is the difference between an american eskimo and a japanese spitz?

I have a six year old american eskimo-or so i think... I have always thought that he was an american eskimo but i have recently looked at a picture of a japanese sptiz... now i am unsure what he is... can someone tell me what is the difference between an american eskimo and a japanese spitz so i can determine his breed?

American Eskimos and Japanese Spitz's were bred separately but have something in common; They're both spitz's, which is evidenced by the curled over tail and silky thick fur.

I'm pretty sure that the J.Spitz has been around longer, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Eskie was descended from J.Spitz. Why don't you try Google?

I had a beautiful mini Eskie for 11 years. His name was Misha.

He was a nasty little dog, but the smartest dog I ever had.

You are in US? most likely its an Eskie probably a miniature, reason....Jap Spitz are not reg. breed in the US only in Japan and Europe, Eskies are not a recognised breed outside of the US. Jap Spitz are a bred down version of Samoyed, Eskies are a white german spitz, older breed than Jap Spitz. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070612192926AA48QFa&kid=LbZpK0G9FGm8bcIlcAq0&s=comm&date=2008-10-01+19%3A30%3A27&.crumb=

I've never heard of a Japanese spitz, but if you googled them both I bet you could find more info. I assume you didn't get any papers with the dog.
